Committed Community Support Award

CCS’ Committed Community Support Award March Winner

Fayetteville, N.C.
 – There are some organizations in Cumberland County that school leaders know they can always count on to step up and help families. Balm in Gilead Family Counseling Ministries is one of those organizations, which provides Cumberland County Schools (CCS) with community outreach, disaster relief, character education programs, hunger relief and much more.

Dr. Vivian Rhone, the president, founder, and CEO of Balm in Gilead, leads the effort to supply students and their families with an abundance of necessities, all free of charge. The organization’s outreach programs are strategically planned to ensure students in the most impoverished areas have access to school supplies and basic needs, including food, water, and clothing. Volunteers from the organization prepare “backpack buddy” meals to make sure that students have meals during the weekend. In addition to outreach programs, Dr. Rhone leads Character Education assemblies and discussions.“Following natural disasters in our area that left many unexpectedly homeless due to flooding, power loss, or extreme damage to their homes, Balm in Gilead worked to ensure students and families who were in need were given ample supplies until they could rebound from the devastation of these storms,” said Kim Nash, instructional programs coordinator for CCS, who nominated her.

For her tremendous leadership and selfless acts of kindness, Dr. Rhone is the winner of CCS’ Committed Community Support Award for the month of March. She will receive a plaque and be recognized at the regular monthly Cumberland County Board of Education meeting on March 10, 2020.

Any individual or organization that supports CCS is eligible for the Committed Community Support Award, including volunteers, parents, mentors, businesses, faith partners and community groups.

Nominations can be submitted here: http://bit.ly/31dMVZl. The Committed Community Support Award committee reviews nominations monthly to select a winner. Nominations are due by the 15th of each month.
